Group Expeditions feature the following elements:

• Lake Nakuru National Park presents the stunning bright pink flamingos against brilliant blue lake at Lake Nakuru, along with the best place to see both black and white rhinos. A wealth of other birds and animals are here as well.
• Maji Moto Cultural Camp engages you in Maasai community life, and exploration of local educational and health philanthropy projects, and hiking the Loita hills and plains. Activities could include ceremonies for blessings in and around the village, learning about medicinal plants, daily village life (beading, cooking, water, laundry), an African cooking lesson, warrior training activities, time with medicine men and women, campfire stories and songs, authentic Maasai market, bathing at the hot spring.
• Maasai Mara with lodging luxury tented camp, driving and walking safari, and hot air balloon safari available at additional cost.
• Nairobi sightseeing, including visits to wildlife rescue and ecology centers around Nairobi, such as the elephant orphanage, crocodile sanctuary, and giraffe center.   The spectacular backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, is seen from the southern boundary of the park across the border of Tanzania. Obscured by cloud cover at times, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views when the sky clears, providing a great background for wildlife photos. There are more swamps and marshes here than some of the other parks, offering prime environment for elephants, hippos, buffaloes and water birds.
• Coastal Kenya  (5-7 days)
  Miles of palm fringed beaches, islands and towns that still reflect Kenya's rich cultural heritage, with reminders of the mix of African, Arabic and European cultures. From the Port of Mombasa in the south to the serene and enchanting island of Lamu in the north, with possible day trips to Tsavo National, the coast offers a great variety of experiences.
  • Mombasa and Diani Beach area: Kenya's principal port and the country's second largest city, Mombasa is a colorful island town with a picturesque blend of ancient and modern buildings with Arab influence. Diani is a bit to the south, and a bit less hectic, while still offering beautiful beaches as well as night life.
  • Lamu area: Travel back in time on the remote archipelago of Lamu. Kenya's oldest living town, it has retained its appearance and character over the centuries. There are narrow streets, no cars and the only means of transport on land are donkeys, or by sea, dhows or motor powered boats. Enjoy some of the world's last truly deserted tropical beaches and abundant wildlife.
  • Malindi: The main highlight of the town is the Marine National Park with an amazing variety of corals and colorful fish to admire through glass bottomed boats or snorkeling.
  • Shimoni and Wasini island: With no cars, roads, running water or electricity, Wasini island has been virtually untouched by the 20th century. This is a true fishing community with strong Arab and coastal influences. Visit Kisite Marine National Park by dhow.
• Nairobi Excursions  (1-3 days)
  If you are looking for something to do before a night flight home, or simply wanting to extend your experience more of Kenya from the metropolitan area, there are many things to do right from Nairobi. Here’s a sampling of activities you can enjoy:
  • National Museum, just outside the city center, has a good range of cultural, geological and natural-history exhibits.

  • Horseback riding from the Langata area just outside Nairobi.
  • Animal sanctuaries, orphanages, breeding and education centers for elephants, giraffe, crocodiles, are presented through foundations, private organizations and the Kenya Wildlife Service at Nairobi National Park.
  • Nairobi National Park is the most easily accessible of Kenya’s wildlife park, offering driving safaris to view abundant wildlife just outside the center of the city. The Kenya Wildlife Service is headquartered here, with great nature walk and dining options.
  • Kazuri Beads and Pottery Center is an interesting craft center, started in 1975 as a place where single mothers could learn a marketable skill and achieve self-sufficiency. Today, their goods are shipped around the world. Tours of the goods being crafted, and a nice gift shop with prices lower than other retail outlets.

  • Karen Blixen Museum is the farmhouse where Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa, lived between 1914 and 1931.

• Samburu and Laikipia  (4-7 days)
  This Northern Frontier District offers views of wildlife different from elsewhere in Africa. Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx, grenuk and Somail Ostrich are all common here, along with a wide range of birds. In the Laikipia region, there are many private reserves and wildlife conservancies that offer unique lodging, animal viewing and conservation education opportunities.
• Lake Naivasha  (3-5 days)
  This freshwater lake, fringed by thick papyrus, varies greatly in size according to rainfall. At the beginning of the 20th Century, it completely dried up and effectively disappeared. The resulting open land was farmed, until heavy rains a few years later returned the lake to existence, swallowing up the farms. Naivasha is a world class birding destination, and also draws giraffes, buffalo, colobus monkeys and a large hippo population to its shores. Hell’s Gate National Park, close to the lake, was named for its pair of massive red tinged cliffs framing a geothermically active interior of steam vents and bubbling springs. The park is home to a profusion of plains game and birdlife. Walking is permitted, making it ideal for hiking, biking, and rock climbing. Boat trips on the lake are also available.
• Gorilla Treks in Rwanda  (5-8 days)
  Visit Parc National des Volcans, where Dian Fossey was based and where the film about her work was made to see the mountain gorillas. Also visit the chimpanzees and rare golden monkeys. Further explore the nature and culture of Rwanda with a cultural guide.
• Tanzania Extension  (7-10 days)
  Head south to Tanzania to experience Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Killimanjaro, and Zanzibar beaches.
